Seafood consumption

“Eight out of ten Western Australians buy their seafood at fresh fish markets, supermarkets, restaurants or fish and chip shops rather than catching it.”*

Professional fishermen are the vital link that supplies seafood to the vast majority of the community who choose to buy their seafood because they can’t go fishing, or simply don’t want to.

Seafood is often recognised as our national dish, and eating fresh local seafood in WA is an essential part of the visitor experience. Professional fishermen play a vital role in supplying the seafood component ofthe tourism and hospitality sectors.
