Kim Colero - Chairman

 

Kim has over 30 years experience in the commercial fishing industry, 25 of those as the skipper of a Rock Lobster fishing vessel and 21 years as an owner/operator. Today he lives and works in Perth, running his own agri-business consulting company.

 

As a commercial fisherman in Dongara he became an active participant in the industry by serving on various committees and representative bodies, including being President of the Dongara Professional Fisherman’s Association. Kim is a long-standing member of the Marine Parks and Reserves Authority (MPRA) that works to maintain sustainable and healthy marine environments.

 

Kim brings wide experience in commercial fishing, fisheries management, industry sustainability and Government relations to the Chairmanship of the WAFIC Board.

George Kailis - Vice-Chairman

 

George Kailis is Professor of Management at the School of Business of the University of Notre Dame Australia. Professor Kailis holds qualifications in law and management and has had extensive industry, government and community experience. He was Managing Director of the M.G. Kailis Group one of Australia’s largest fishing and aquaculture businesses from 1992-1999.

 

Special interests are held in the areas of the environment, fisheries management and strategy. Professor Kailis has been a Director of both the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority. Ongoing positions held by Professor Kailis include directorship of the M.G. Kailis Group, the Pearling Industry Advisory Committee, the Australian National Centre for Oceans and Resource Security and the Advisory Board of Yale University’s Centre for Environmental Law and Policy.

Angus Callander - Director

Angus has been a Director of WAFIC since 2000.  He is currently a member of both the Research, Development and Extension and Audit Committees. He was Chairman of the WA Fisheries Research and Advisory Committee from 2003 to 2009.


His involvement in the fishing industry commenced in 1983 when he joined the MG Kailis Group. He has held Senior Management Executive positions with both MG Kailis and Vinci Seafood's. Currently, he operates his own Seafood Consultancy business and is the Chairperson of the Centre of Excellence for Seafood, Science and Health.

 

He was a Local Government Councilor on the Irwin Shire from 1990 to 1999 and has for a number of years been a Governing Councilor of both Durack and Challenger Institute of Tecnologies, the former of which he was Chairperson from 1994 to 1997.

Dexter Davies– Director

 

 Dexter has a Bachelor of Business degree and is a member of the Australian Institute  of Company Directors.

 

Dexter's previous experience includes being a project management accountant with Wesfarmers Europe Ltd, a wheat and sheep farmer (family farm) in Wyalkatchem for 20 years until 1998, a Councilor of the Western Australian Council of State School Organizations, a member of the Western Australian Parliament in the Legislative Council representing the Agricultural Region, a member of the National Drought Review Panel, Chairman of the Ministerial Dry Season Advisory Committee WA, Chairman of the Western Rock Lobster Council, Chairman of the Aquaculture Development Council WA and a member of the National Agricultural Monitoring Scheme advisory reference group.

 

He is currently a Director of the Rural Business Development Corporation WA, a Councillor of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA, a member of the Board of the Western Australian Cricket Association, President of the Claremont Nedlands Cricket Club (WACA competition), Chairman of the Agrifood Skills Australia Seafood Standing Committee and the Executive Officer of the Western Rocklobster Council.

Glenn Dibbin – Director

Glenn has extensive experience in mussel aquaculture over the past 21 years and is a working partner in a Mussel Farm in Cockburn. He is a founding partner in Blue Lagoon Mussels, Western Australia's leading mussel producer and servers as Chair of the Western Australia Mussel Producers Association.

 

He has represented industry on the Cockburn Sound Management Council since its inception around 8 years ago.

 

He has previously worked in Western Australia  and the Abrolhos Islands in the scallop, rocklobster and prawn commercial fishing sectors.

Brad Adams – Director


Brad is a third generation fisherman from Augusta. Brad was a professional abalone diver for 12 years. He is currently CEO of Two Oceans Abalone Ltd, an aquaculture company developing in-sea abalone aquaculture farms. They are also entering the seafood processing, wholesale and retail business with soon to be completed premises in Augusta.

 

Brad has tertiary qualifications in Biology, Aquaculture and will be completing his MBA this year. He has a strong interests in Research and Development and currently chairs WAFIC's R&D committee. 

 

Brad's vision is for WAFIC to be seen by the seafood industry and government as a strong and united representative organisation that is responsive to the needs of industry and is focussed on obtaining outcomes that deliver tangible gains to the seafood industry.

James Paratore - Director

 

James has been actively involved with the Rock Lobster Industry since he was 12 years old working with his Father on FB 'Vanessa James'. His family has been involved with Rock Lobster fishing in WA since the 1960's, and his extended family still ply their trade in Italy using different forms of fishing.

 

James possesses a diverse background, the most prominent example being his other career choice, where in 2004, he completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Curtin University. 

 

In 2008, he was elected to represent C zone on the Board of the Western Rock Lobster Council. Most recently, he was asked to particpate and present during the young leaders' workshop at the National Rock Lobster Congress in Adelaide.

 

He sees his appointment to this leadership role as a chance to restore the industries' link between a very proud Western Australian Fishing Community, serving to realign and promote its duty as custodians of the ocean, and guarantee its role as ambassadors of the sea. He looks forward to helping shape a new and prosperous path for the entire Western Australian Fishing Community.

Peter Glass - Director

 

 Peter Glass was elected to the WAFIC Board in 2009 thanks to the support of his fellow fishermen. He is a second generation lobster fisherman from Kalbarri and has been involved in the industry in one capacity or another for most of his life.

 

He was a rocklobster fisherman until 1996, when he decided to step out until the fishery's future management direction had been addressed. He is presently looking at actively rejoining the lobster industry now it has taken what he believes to be the positive step towards becoming a quota managed fishery.

 

Besides being on the Board of WAFIC, he is currently president of the Shark Bay Snapper Fisherman's Assocation and is pleased to say that as a quota managed fishery it has achieved some great results in recent years thanks to the cooperative approach taken between management and industry.

 

Peter's vision for the future is for the fishing industry to unit and meet the many challenges that lie ahead. He believes industry needs to set aside its differences and encourage the youth to get involved with a view to progressing the industry towards self-management over time.

John Hutton - Director

 

John is currently a shareholder and director of Marine Produce Australia Ltd, an ASX listed company involved in aquaculture.

 

He is also  a member of the Pearl Producers Association.
