Demersal gillnet fisheries' closure starts today

The two month closure, from 16 August to 15 October, to all demersal gillnet fishing between Steep Point (north of Kalbarri) and Albany starts today.
This closure has been in place now for the fourth consecutive year and was supported by the members of the WA Demersal Gillnet and Longline Association earlier this year.

The organisation that runs the highly successful European Seafood Exposition and also the International Boston Seafood Show each year – as well as numerous other food show across the globe, including in Australia - announced last October that it was adding the Asian Seafood Expo to its network of global seafood events.
Coalition's marine park policy recognises need to improve consultation and use of science

The Coalition’s Marine Park policy released today outlines a proposed consultation process which potentially addresses some of the deficiencies in the current approach and emphasises the need for decisions to be made on the basis of ‘peer-reviewed scientific evidence of threats to biodiversity’.

Fishing industry calls for ALP and Greens to rule out massive water grab

The WA fishing industry is seeking clear and unequivocal commitments from the Australian Labor Party and the Greens that the design, location and size of all Commonwealth marine parks will be based on sound science not on sweeping percentages of marine territory.
