After months of negotiations – we are pleased to advise that the Fisheries Minister, The Hon. Dave Kelly, signed a 3 year-funding agreement for WAFIC which will take the organisation to 30 June 2021. This is welcomed news that showcases the government’s confidence in our peak industry body.

One of the main focuses this year was the organisation’s strategic direction. As of 2020, WAFIC will not look the same and will undergo a transformation, including new goals, objectives and structure – to meet the changing needs of members. Building community support and resource access will continue to be key pillars that will remain a priority.

WAFIC also announced the proposed seafood trail – and although early days, is set to be an important development for the WA seafood industry to preserve its history, highlight its valuable contribution and create opportunities for our fishers.
