Fourth Time Successful – WA rock lobster fishery celebrates 17 continuous years of MSC certification
At an industry meeting in Fremantle yesterday morning the Hon. Dave Kelly MLA congratulated the Western Rock Lobster industry on achieving certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for a fourth time after an independent third-party assessment. He recognised that this achievement was a world’s first.
Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) Chief Executive Officer John Harrison recognises the fishery’s push to gain MSC certification for a fourth successive time.
“It is extremely satisfying to see WA’s Rock Lobster fishery achieve MSC certification for 17 continuous years,” Mr Harrison said.
“Attaining MSC certification provides the community with confirmation that the fishery is managed to world’s best practice in terms of minimal environmental impact and the long-term sustainability and viability of stocks.”
“It adds assurance that the seafood products consumers purchase has passed the world’s most rigorous, scientific standards,” he said.
