Senate Vote Proves Positive for Australian Commercial Fishing Industry

After uncertainty over a vote that was not expected for several weeks, the government unexpectedly forced a vote on a Labor disallowance motion on the recently tabled commonwealth marine reserve plans.

Although apparently ‘united’ in their decision, none of the 11 crossbenchers committed to backing Labor to supporting the move that would have disallowed the plans and put us back to more consultation on top of the decade plus of consultation and meetings.
