Tribute to Kim Chance
It is with great sadness that we inform you that WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) chairman, the Hon. Kim Chance, passed away suddenly yesterday.
WAFIC chief executive officer, John Harrison today issued this statement on the shock passing:
“It was a great shock to staff and our board who are still getting their heads around the sudden nature of it”.
“Mr Chance was not only a true parliamentarian but was well liked, respected by all and a true gentleman”.
“Kim brought something new to WAFIC when he became chair in 2015”.
“He brought a total independence to the organisation as chair, which is a first for our organisation, and he brought with him a wealth of experience in the many years that he had as a minister and shadow minister in that fisheries portfolio.
“Kim didn’t have any direct pecuniary interest in any of the fishing in WA”.
“That was a welcome change. He brought with him the view that the vast majority of the population rely upon the commercial fishing industry to provide them with seafood for their table. That was one of the things he was championing in the period he was chair”.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who will mourn his passing”.
