Opportunity for the public to help celebrate seafood industry excellence

Monday 19 June marked the shut off date for nominations for the 2017 State Seafood Awards signifying less than two months to go until the biggest night for WA seafood. With a total of 13 prizes to be awarded this year in various categories including Young Achiever of the Year, Best Seafood Business (big), Best Seafood Business (small), People Development Award and the Michael Kailis Leadership Award, it is no doubt the night will be short of celebration.

Open to the public for the first time Mr Harrison encouraged lovers of seafood to attend and help promote the successes of one of Western Australia’s most innovative and diverse industries.

“The State Seafood Awards showcase our industry and its value to the State economy. They also illustrate its professionalism and commitment to supplying some of the finest seafood in the world to local, national and international markets.

“The 2017 event promises to deliver a “Seafood Spectacular” of food-theatre displays from ten celebrity chefs who are preparing gastronomical delights from fresh, local and sustainably caught Australian seafood.

Chefs include WA Seafood Ambassadors Pete Manifis and Don Hancey who will turn on their culinary skills and work their magic to produce a sumptuous feast with some of the best WA-sourced seafood ingredients.

“With an amazing array of Western Australian chefs and 15 different seafood items from fish to prawns to pearl meat, you will not be disappointed.

The event is a celebration of the industry and how it is a leader in sustainability and environmental protection of our waters. We look forward to welcoming a glittering crowd of industry, government, media and community representatives to the best nights in the seafood calendar”, Mr Hancey said.

The State Seafood Awards will be held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle on 3 August.
