AMSA names new chair

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has appointed Captain Jeanine Drummond as its new Chair.

Captain Drummond is the first woman appointed to the permanent role of Chair, with more than half the membership of the board now female.

Captain Drummond is an experienced Harbour Master, Master Mariner and maritime industry professional, as well as a well-respected member of the maritime community.

She has led, and contributed expertise to, projects spanning ports governance, pilotage standards, port resource management, offshore wind developments, maritime workplace inclusion and safety management systems.

First appointed to the AMSA Board in 2020 and currently serving as a member for the University of Tasmania’s Australian Maritime College Advisory Board and the Australian Mariners Welfare Society Council, Captain Drummond already has critical roles in improving maritime safety, skills and seafarer wellbeing.

Experienced seafarer, Dean Summers and marine and transport lawyer, Michelle Taylor have also been appointed to the AMSA Board.
