Federal Minister responds to industry submissions on AMSA reviews
The Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Catherine King MP, responded In February 2024 to the industry submissions to the two separate AMSA reviews that have been ongoing during 2022 and 2023.
The Minister advised that the Albanese government is preparing a response to the recommendations of Independent Panel Report into AMSA’s legislation being fit for purpose, which included the recommendation to retain the grandfathering provisions.
The Minister also advised that she has passed on all the industry commentary (made in relation to the Independent Panel process) to the consultants completing the Review of Australian Transport, Safety and Investigation Bodies, which now includes consideration of sustainable future funding arrangements for AMSA including cost recovery arrangements and regulation of domestic commercial vessels.
