New Board appointments for WA Fishing Industry Council

New Board appointments for WA Fishing Industry Council

 Monday 3 February 2020

The Board of the WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) welcomed three new casual Directors and a new Independent Chairman last week, with the appointments of Paul Catalano, Wayne Scheggia, Gary Morgan and Murray Criddle, who was appointed as Board Chair.  These appointments follow the recent resignations of James Clement, Leonie Noble, Peter Cooke and Ron Edwards as the outgoing Chair.  These appointments fill casual vacancies and will be open to  formal elections by the WAFIC Members at the 2020 Annual General Meeting.

The new appointees will provide a broad range of skills and experience and complement the significant industry-based experience on the remaining board.

Paul Catalano brings a wealth of practical expertise in post-harvest processing, international markets, supermarket drivers and direct retail.

Wayne Scheggia is highly experienced in policy development and advocacy through his prior executive experience at WA Local Government Association.  Bringing his direct knowledge of government process at all levels, Wayne is also passionate about communities and the people who live and work in them.

Dr Gary Morgan was Chairman of Southern Rock Lobster Ltd and is a previous Director of Fisheries in SA. He was an adviser to the European Commission and to the United States Agency for International Development on marine parks. He is also a former Chair of Wild Catch SA, the peak body for the SA fishing Industry.

Murray Criddle OAM was a Nationals member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 1993 to 2008, representing the Agricultural region. In 2009 he was appointed Chairman of the Mid West Development Commission, where he played a leading role developing the $220 million Royalties for Regions Mid-West Investment Plan, which funded important economic, social and community infrastructure.

Acting Chair Tony Westerberg said the appointments reflected the skills and expertise required to reset the new look Board, to provide the maximum benefit for all of Industry and sincerely congratulates the successful appointees on behalf of the WAFIC Board.
