New WA Fisheries Minister

Premier Mark McGowan announced late yesterday a minor adjustment of portfolios within his cabinet.

Fisheries will now become the responsibility of Minister Peter Tinley, with the Youth portfolio being handed to Minister Dave Kelly. Chris Tallentire will continue as Parliamentary Secretary to Minister Kelly, under his updated portfolio responsibility.

Mr Kelly has overseen the fisheries portfolio since 2017, while Mr Tinley has been responsible for youth for the same period of time.

Premier McGowan said he was proud of what his team had been able to achieve since being elected to government.  “This portfolio adjustment will ensure that the portfolios of both fisheries and youth continue to have the prominence they deserve.”

WAFIC looks forward to meeting with Minister Tinley and developing a relationship that works towards the best interest of Government and Industry, and towards our key priorities of:

  • Building a united WA Seafood industry, by pursuing enduring rights of access to marine resources and property rights for the commercial entitlements, based in legislation and equity;
  • Working together on key issues of policy, resource sustainability and ensuring consistent communication to enable our industry to thrive, and
  • Connecting and collaborating across government, key stakeholders and community in areas of concern for the seafood industry.
