ProWest News – WAFIC calls on government to hose down rogue agency

It has become impossible for the WA fishing industry to trust the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), with the latest revelations that the agency has used confidential fishing maps, supplied by fishers in good faith, to form its sanctuary zone maps.

Despite commitments from DBCA that the maps would allow the agency to minimise impacts, they have instead been used to identify the most productive fishing areas, which are now to be excluded.

It’s a disgraceful example of how DBCA has gone rogue, and WAFIC is calling on government to hose them down and restore trust.
