Seafood Industry Australia names new CEO

Following a long and detailed executive search and interviewing process, Seafood Industry Australia has named Veronica Papacosta as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Veronica has been acting in this role since early April and has done an outstanding job, leading a number of important initiatives for SIA such as the $4 million Federal grant for the Eat Seafood Australia marketing campaign, the national mental health pilot program, the state peak body round-table and other strategic initiatives.

WA Fishing Industry Council CEO, Alex Ogg sat as a member of the Recruitment Committee, which also included Louise Morrison, Sydney Fish Markets HR Manager; and SIA Directors, Belinda Wilson, Mark Ryan, and Marshall Betzel.

Alex said: “I wish Veronica tremendous success in her new role as SIA firmly establishes its place as the national voice of our industry. I’m confident she will lead our peak body to new levels of relevance with her customary blend of enthusiasm, competence and passion.”

In line with SIA’s focus on good governance and separation of the CEO position from the Board, Veronica will not contest her Chair and Directorship positions.

These positions will be filled at SIA’s Annual General Meeting in October.
