Plans to expand WAFIC to the South Coast and Mid-West following 2025 Strategic Plan Release
Following comprehensive strategic planning this year, the WAFIC Board is proud to announce the launch of our Strategic Plan 2025-2030 – a roadmap built on WAFIC’s four core pillars of Promote, Protect, Develop, and Represent that commits to enhancing direct industry engagement by putting WAFIC staff directly into the regions. We’ve heard your call for stronger grassroots connections, and we’re answering it with more face-to-face support and stronger regional representation.
We are planning to expand WAFIC staff into the regions on a two-year trail basis to improve grassroots engagement. To begin there will be two regional WAFIC branches, one on the South Coast and one in the Mid-West– bringing WAFIC’s support and advocacy directly to where our fishers work and live.
Our vision extends beyond simply having a regional presence. We envision these branches eventually having elected Chairs who will have a meaningful voice within WAFIC’s decision-making structure, ensuring regional perspectives directly influence our organisation’s direction. The business of each branch will be determined by its members, creating truly community-driven priorities and initiatives that reflect local needs and opportunities. We will be using our new branch structure to collectively agree on and drive our core priorities, ensuring every voice is heard and every region is represented.
There is much to do, and more detailed information will become available over the coming months as we take concrete steps to turn this vision into reality. There will be plenty of opportunities for fishers to get involved, and we will need all shoulders to the wheel to drive meaningful change and deliver valuable outcomes for our industry. With WAFIC positioned directly in the regions, we’re ready to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead while ensuring that Western Australia’s commercial fishing sectors receive the support and advocacy they deserve.
