BOM to change weather forecasts
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is proposing to change the way it issues its regular weather forecasts across Australia.
The changes, tipped to commence in September 2025, will see the BOM increase the number of routine public weather forecast issuances each day from its current two per day to four times daily to inform on land-based forecasts including district, town, city, state and territory, as well as coastal waters, local waters and marine wind warning summaries.
The forecasts will also be shared nationally at the same time instead of being staggered across Australian time zones based on local times as it is currently.
These changes will ensure that the Bureau’s forecasts are informed by the most recent predictions and observations, which will enable the community, industry and emergency services to make more timely and informed decisions.
The additional updates will better align the current day’s forecast with actual conditions.
