Casting out with WAFIC

WAFIC Senior Resource Access Officer, Ree Blazeski recently spent a few days in Albany connecting with South Coast fishers across a range of sectors, visiting Albany Seafoods, meeting shark industry contacts at Great Southern Seafoods and engaging with members of Southern Seafoods Producers WA.

Drawing on her industry knowledge and existing relationships, she engaged fishers in her new WAFIC role, gaining valuable insights while sharing our vision for a successful and sustainable seafood sector with secure access and strong community support.

She also met with key regional stakeholders including DPIRD and the Great Southern Development Commission and participated in the Sea Change Australia workshop at the Stirling Club – a joint University of Tasmania/CSIRO project funded by FRDC – exploring climate-resilient options for fisheries and aquaculture.

Next stops for Ree include Esperance to discuss marine park compensation, Bunbury to discuss all things Temperate Demersal and Mandurah to engage with Estuarine fishers.
