The Federal Department of Climate Change and Energy has offered Bunbury Offshore Wind and Westward Wind feasibility licences, which will allow the proponents to commence assessment and consultation to determine the viability and operations of within the Bunbury offshore wind zone
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said Australia’s emerging offshore wind industry would be a major source of clean energy and regional jobs for years to come.
The licences will determine feasibility for up to 4GW of offshore wind energy.
While the Federal Government is actively promoting the opportunities for offshore wind, there is limited support from WA stakeholders, many of whom are more supportive of onshore wind energy.
