Bunbury Offshore Wind Farm to commence location testing

The Bunbury Offshore Wind Farm is planning to undertake metocean investigations, as part of its feasibility and environmental studies. The details for the study can be found in the information pack here.

The testing will be conducted in the EDFA North sector which lies approximately 35 kilometres west of Dawesville and 47 kilometres North-West of Bunbury and will feature four separate monitoring buoys that are easily visible at each location. The testing will be undertaken over a period of approximately two years.

Installation and mooring of the buoys is expected to be undertaken between January and March 2027.

The investigations are covered within a management plan to be submitted to the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR) under the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure (OEI) Act.

The management plan includes:

  • The deployment of wind, wave and current measuring equipment in the form of floating-LiDAR buoys, metocean buoys and an optional wave buoy.
  • The buoys will be deployed within the defined Feasibility Licence area for a period of up to two years

An information package is available here.
