Commitment to socially responsible seafood sees Fins take home the trophy

The growth, innovation and excellence of Fins Seafood was recognised when the company was presented the Seafood Business (Large) Award, sponsored by Baker Refrigeration, at the 2024 Western Australian Seafood Industry Awards.

The Awards event, recognising excellence in the WA seafood industry, was held at The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle and opened by Minister for Fisheries Hon Don Punch MLA in front of a large audience of industry participants and representatives.

Fins Seafood is more than just a seafood business, it’s a commitment to social responsibility and quality, according to John Cordin, Co-Owner of Fins Seafood.

“Our mission is clear: to provide consumers with fresh and frozen premium seafood while fostering transparency and reliability.” And with a young and enthusiastic team, Fins Seafood is poised to lead the way in the seafood sector, prioritising sustainability and ethical sourcing.

Our network of fishers spans across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring top-quality products for our customers. We believe in connecting consumers directly with fishermen, establishing trust and accountability in every transaction. This ensures the best platform for quality and value,” Mr Cordin said. This growing supply stream allows Fins Seafood to cater to high-end restaurants in Perth while also meeting the demand of export and East Coast markets. ”

Fins Seafood’s dedication to excellence and transparency sets them apart in the industry. With a commitment to quality and sustainability, they are not just a seafood provider but a partner in promoting responsible consumption and ethical sourcing practices.

“At Fins Seafood, we’re not just selling seafood, we’re fostering a connection between consumers and the ocean, one catch at a time,” Mr Cordin said.

WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) CEO, Darryl Hockey said Fins Seafood, as a seafood business employing the equivalent of ten or more full time staff had contributed substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry and helped define good customer service.

“A strong desire to meet customer expectations and improve the business strategy in alignment with the changing food service industry has stood Fins Seafood in good stead to ensure the company continues to achieve sustained growth and increased its turnover year after year. But it has also grown its customer base by providing products and service that consistently meets or exceeds expectation for quality and variety,” Mr Hockey said.

“As an industry body, we recognise the importance of acknowledging those individuals and organisations who make a substantial contribution to benefiting our industry, and the Fins Seafood are certainly a worthy recipient of this award,” Mr Hockey concluded.
