New Country of Origin seafood labelling rules for seafood served in restaurant, hospitality and food service settings comes into effect from 1 July 2026. Make sure you comply.
Education and compliance is managed by the Federal Government’s business department. You can find out more here. https://business.gov.au/products-and-services/product-labelling/seafood-labelling-laws-are-changing-for-hospitality-businesses
Under the new laws all seafood menu items served in commercial hospitality settings must identity Country of Origin using the AIM system:
A – Australian
I – Imported
M – Mixed origin (where there is a mixture of Australian and imported seafoods)
In WA the rollout is being managed by Consumer Protection, with support from the Federal Government, so local hospitality businesses have time to get ready before the rules take effect.
