More flexibility for Autonomous Maritime Systems training

The Maritime Training Package has been revised to enable greater flexibility and efficiency in skills development for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) and Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) operators.

Skills Ministers have endorsed updated training products to support more flexible and efficient skills development for operators of Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS).

To meet the evolving needs of this innovative field, a Technical Committee, working closely with industry, has revised the Certificate III in Autonomous Maritime Systems and two related Skill Sets.

Key improvements include the removal of pre-requisites from four out of six ‘Units of Competency,’ making it easier to access training for roles in Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) operations.

What does this mean for industry?

These updates offer a more streamlined and adaptable approach to training, helping operators of autonomous maritime vessels build essential skills more efficiently. The changes are designed to enhance safety and productivity, support sustainable practices and accelerate workforce development in AUV and ASV operations.

The revised training products are part of Release 12.0 of the Maritime Training Package. Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will need to update their training resources to align with the new standards.
