New WA Work Health and Safety Laws delayed
WA’s new Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws have been delayed and will now come into effect in March 2022.
Originally scheduled for January 2022, the new laws will bring together work health and safety for general industry (including fishing and aquaculture), mines and petroleum and geothermal operations under a single WHS Act.
Minister Stephen Dawson said drafting the WHS regulations was a very complex process and despite the allocation of significant resources the new laws would be delayed.
Draft copies of the WHS regulations (referred to as ‘exposure drafts’) are currently online and publicly available on the Department’s website.
WHS information update sessions will be held throughout January and February 2022 in the metropolitan and regional areas. Where possible, the sessions will be live streamed and recorded.
Planning and preparation for the information update sessions is still in progress.
Once the sessions have been finalised WAFIC will notify members through relevant sector bodies, the WAFIC website and its newsletter.
