WAFIC are seeking expressions of interest from seafood exporters who would like to attend key international seafood shows over the next 12 months, addressing both immediate and longer-term strategies to reduce reliance on a single market and/or develop new trade relationships.
WAFIC and CCI are currently investigating various channels of support to directly assist the Seafood Industry in this time of unprecedented market disruption by facilitating new trade opportunities.
A proposal to fund and organise seafood industry participation at 3 of the most important trade shows for our industry, relies upon WAFIC demonstrating significant interest from seafood exporters or export ready businesses to participate.
Attendance by WA producers and supply chain members ready to export offers the opportunity for face to face meetings to:
* Find buyers for current stock in other markets e.g. Japan & EU
* Build long term market and product diversification and WA brand awareness in Asia, the EU and North America
* Refresh relationships with Chinese buyers
The 3 seafood shows are to be held:
* 21-23 April 2020 – Seafood Expo Global (Belgium)
* 1-3 September 2020 (proposed) – Seafood Expo Asia (Singapore)
* March 2021 – Seafood Expo North America (Boston USA)
At this stage individual seafood exporters would be responsible for their own flights and accommodation (approx. $10-15k for two people), however there is an “Access Asia Business Grant” available through the WA State Government that exporters may be eligible to apply for: https://www.jtsi.wa.gov.au/accessasia
It is possible that additional funding sources for attendees may be identified if there is strong industry support for this initiative.
