After three years of research and writing, well-known Fremantle fisher, Dr. James Paratore has published a new book capturing the history of Sicilian fishing families, their contribution to Fremantle and the development of the Western Australian fishing industry.
The new book ‘Salt in their veins: From Capo d’Orlando to Fremantle’ tells the story of these families through their lived experiences, the hardships, their resilience, and the deep bonds forged between people and the sea.
The book will be launched next week at a special function at the Fremantle History Society, at the Walyalup Civic Centre, 151 High Street, Fremantle.
The event will coincide with the society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 28 July from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm and is open to Fremantle History Society members and members of the public.
Contributions to supper as always, most welcome.
Registration and refreshments start from 4.30pm, followed by the AGM with the book launch following at 5.25pm to 6.00pm.

Copies of the book will be available for sale on the night for $25 including GST. Payment by card or cash accepted.
