Tanya Adams rewarded for setting safety code for industry
Playing a leading role in seafood safety and the development of effective safety processes has seen Tanya Adams presented with the Safety Award at the 2021 Western Australian Seafood Industry Awards.

The Awards event, recognising excellence in the WA seafood industry, was held at The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle and opened by Minister for Fisheries Hon Don Punch MLA in front of an audience of industry participants and seafood representatives.
WA Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) CEO, Darryl Hockey said Tanya Adams had demonstrated excellence in developing and maintaining a culture of safety that has contributed substantially towards improving the safety record of the seafood industry.
Tanya Adams is a highly experienced workplace safety advisor who has spent over 30 years working in the seafood industry to improve workplace safety standards.
Tanya has developed numerous practices and guidelines for the seafood industry including the ‘WAFIC Safety Code’, an industry code to provide fishing method guidelines; a pre-sea crew induction system; a communication strategy, as well as practical guidelines for delivery and implementation of these processes within industry, with the aim to reduce fatalities and improve the safety record of the seafood industry.
“As an industry body, we recognise the importance of acknowledging those individuals and organisations who make a substantial contribution to benefiting our industry, and Tanya Adams is certainly a worthy recipient of this award,” Mr Hockey concluded.
