With community interest in the demersal fishing ban at record levels, ABC Perth decided to put it under the spotlight with a panel discussion as part of its Spotlight Forum series.
The Forum saw Fisheries Minister Jackie Jarvis alongside WAFIC Chief Executive, Melissa Haslam, Recfishwest CEO Andrew Rowland and UWA Marine Futures Lab professor Jessica Meeuwig to discuss the broader impacts and issues.
The forum ran for more than 60 minutes and highlighted some of the gaps in the Minister’s knowledge and some of the potential gaps and anomalies in the science.
Host, Nadia Mitsopoulos, took questions from the studio guests and listeners, which confirmed the community concerns about the regional and industry impacts flowing from the Minister’s Captain’s Call.
