WAFIC consolidates for COVID recovery
There was an underlying mood of confidence in the future as the WA Fishing Industry Council met on Friday 27 November for its Annual General Meeting, which saw members vote to retain its current Board Directors and Chairman.
Members overwhelmingly supported the Board, which includes:
- Murray Criddle (Chair)
- Tony Westerberg (Vice Chair)
- Felicity Horn
- Paul Catalano
- Don Nicholls
- Adam Radford
- Wayne Scheggia
- Gary Morgan
- Anthony Haygarth
The WAFIC Board Directors were overwhelmingly supported by members at the recent AGM. (Gary Morgan is absent from the image due to the border lockdown).
Key issues raised for action by members include the uncertainty over international market challenges; COVID-19 mitigations and funding support; delayed settlement of compensation payments for the impacts created through Marine Park expansions; private property rights, and the challenges of balancing recreational and commercial fishing interests.
Members were confident the current skills mix represented on the Board, which includes local fishing knowledge as well as political, business and governance experience, was well suited to moving the industry forward.
The Board will gather for its first meeting on 9 December 2020 in Fremantle.
