WAFIC is calling for nominations for its Board of Directors. Six positions, including the Independent Chair, will be elected at the 2026 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18 November 2026.
Nominations close at 5:00pm AWST on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Positions available
- Independent Chair: three-year term (November 2026 to November 2029)
- Three Board Directors: three-year terms (November 2026 to November 2029)
- One Board Director: two-year term (November 2026 to November 2028)
- One Board Director: one-year term (November 2026 to November 2027)
What the Board does
The WAFIC Board sets the organisation’s strategic direction and policy. It is responsible for WAFIC’s financial viability, management oversight and effective advocacy on behalf of WA’s professional fishing, pearling, processing and export sectors.
All Board members must act in line with WAFIC’s Constitution, Code of Conduct and policies. Our 2025/26 Annual Report is available here.
Independent Chair
We are looking for an experienced executive or board chair who has led complex boards with a mix of industry, government and community stakeholders. Candidates should have a strong understanding of corporate governance, legal frameworks and financial oversight. Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) qualifications are highly regarded.
The Chair must be independent of commercial fishing operating interests. This means the candidate:
- does not hold a commercial fishing, pearling or aquaculture licence
- does not own or control an entity that holds one of these licences
- is not appointed to represent a specific fishery, region, member or stakeholder group
- is not an office bearer, employee or nominated representative of a WAFIC member or affiliated industry association.
Knowledge of the seafood industry does not rule a candidate out. The requirement is for independent judgement.
Board Directors
We welcome nominations from motivated people with governance, leadership and commercial experience, who bring integrity, strategic thinking and strong communication skills.
The Board is seeking a mix of skills and experience across:
- fishing industry awareness and experience
- fisheries science, strategic planning and management
- supply chain and post-harvest management
- board experience and/or AICD qualifications
- tertiary or professional qualifications, ideally in finance or accounting
- legal, governance, risk and compliance.
How to nominate
Your nomination must include:
- a completed and signed Nomination Form, supported by a Proposer and Seconder who are both Financial Full Members
- a Candidate Statement of no more than 400 words covering your background, why you are nominating and any potential conflicts of interest
- a short biography
- a signed Director Consent and Declaration.
