Winners of the WA league of People’s Choice and Judged Fish and Chip Awards, Ocean and Paddock, were recognised nationally for their commitment and demonstrated excellence in providing customers with quality seafood this evening when they received a highly commended second place at the National Awards for Judged Fish and Chips.

The prestigious awards were announced at the gala dinner of Seafood Directions 2017 held at the new Convention Centre in Darling Harbour, Sydney. This biannual event, held in WA in 2015, hosts the national seafood awards where winners of the 11 award categories from all states and the NT are judged, independently, to decide on the national winners.

John Harrison, CEO of the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council, said today that Ocean and Paddock stood out against 7 of the best fish and chip shops around Australia, all whom were vying for the prestigious title of Australia’s top fish and chips.

“The judges were overwhelmed by their quality experience and had no hesitation in awarding a highly commended certificate to Trent and Rebecca Brennan, owners of the Ocean and Paddock restaurant.”

“Not only is taste important but atmosphere, service and other factors such as the correct labelling of seafood species which were all taken into account and scored accordingly,” he said.

With the tag line, ‘The humble Aussie Fish and Chip shop re-imagined’, and not wanting to be just another fish and chip shop – the husband and wife duo reinvented the wheel with Ocean and Paddock in the seaside town of Albany.

Priding themselves on using fresh fish, caught by local fishermen and produce grown by local growers – the business strives to deliver consumers the best possible product.

“This accolade is a testament to a number of things, not the least of which is sourcing their fish from local commercial fishing businesses – one of the Brennan’s known ‘secrets’ to having outstanding quality fish and chips”, Mr Harrison said.

“The WA Fishing Industry Council congratulates Trent, Rebecca and all of their staff. We are proud of their highly commended certificate.”

“We wish them all the best as they begin their journey as Australia’s 2nd top shop, but also thank them for supplying some of the finest seafood in the world to consumers and actively promoting our local commercial fishing businesses,” Mr Harrison concluded.
