Southwestern Fresh Fish were recognised by industry peers taking home the small business award at the 2017 State Seafood Awards.

Winners of the 2017 Seafood Business (Small) Award, Southwestern Fresh Fish, are getting ready for the 2019 WA Seafood Industry awards.

Owner Jason Scimone said, “we already have it planned, not only will we be going for the awards in 2019, but we also have some exciting plans to display our products on the plate at the big event.

“From pearl meat to prawns, deep sea crabs to tuna, nearly every species was on display at the 2017 awards.

“We think with some of our products from the beautiful waters of the South West we could be on the same level as some of the delicious dishes on display at this year’s event.

“We can’t wait”, he said.

With father and son working side-by-side, the small business has achieved sustained growth, by successfully adapting to market challenges in product promotion and community education by moving away from more traditional techniques.

It is anticipated the business growth is in the vicinity of 30%, largely due to actively engaging with customers via social media whilst also responding to market demand to establish a fully vertically integrated business with both land and sea processing facilities.

The business has now tapped into the Melbourne seafood market, whilst still supplying their loyal local (Bunbury) and Perth customer base.

An exciting time for the team at SouthernWestern Fresh Fish and we look forward to following their journey.
