New fishing rules commence for Buccaneer Archipelago Marine Parks
With its 12-month transitional education program coming to an end, commercial and recreational fishing restrictions will now come into effect for the new Bardi Jawi Gaarra Marine Park (BJGMP) from 19 July 2026.
BJGMP is a multiple-use marine park that includes:
- three sanctuary zones covering approximately 25 per cent of the park
- four special purpose zones (biocultural conservation) covering two per cent of the park
- 12 special purpose zones (cultural protection) covering 26 per cent of the park
- general use in the remainder of the park, covering 47 per cent.
